When I was preparing to get my first 9-5 job in 2013, I went through the internet and tried to find anything I had written in my early-to-mid teens and delete. I tried to wipe the internet clean of my immature rants, just in case a hiring manager looked me up. I was afraid of potentially pissing someone off.
I erased myself.
And published a nice, clean, professional design portfolio.
A refresher. A rebrand.
Over the years I haven’t been sure where I should put my writings. I’ve had so many blogs I’ve started and deleted. Should I delete a part of myself to satisfy hiring managers? Or do they like to see complexity, humanity, and a different passion other than UX?
Why risk it? The market is terrible.
But why should I not risk being myself? Isn’t it more risky to be employed by a company that doesn’t really know or get me?
But wait, you’re missing the point.
What is the point of a design/research portfolio? The point is to get a job.
The point of this blog is to write, to be fully myself.
